April 5-6.
The April first-weekend-in-the-month is rapidly approaching and there is lots to do.
Ranger Tim has a productive summer grooming program in place that will greatly improve the retention of snow on the groomed trails. NPWS staff will be working with the volunteers to improve snow fencing and deal with rocks that are limiting winter grooming. Other planned work includes brush-cutting and management of vegetation on the 5km, 7.5km, 10km and Wheatley (if time allows). The 2.5km was the focus of the brush-cutters at the last work party and the results are very promising! Pole repair and numbering is an on-going project that has great safety and practical implications.
If all of that sounds very energetic, it is. Outside and taking in that beautiful mountain air, at altitude. Everyone works at their own pace, of course, and chooses their projects.
Please contact Peter Ward at this email address (nswxc1@gmail.com) if you can attend (this work party or the next) so jobs and materials can be organised. Wear good boots and appropriate work clothes. If you have them, bring work gloves, safety glasses and long-handled secateurs. And remember the flies – fly veils and spray can improve quality of life in the mountains.
Accommodation is available again for work partiers at Canberra Alpine Club in Perisher. If you require accommodation, contact Peter C. on
peter.cunningham@actewagl.com.au as soon as possible.
And pencil in the next work party date:
